Your San Francisco Inbound Marketing Agency Knows When to Post Social Media

Posted by Jaco Grobbelaar on Mon, Aug 25, 2014 @ 05:49 AM

Do you know when to post social media for different platforms? What about for your clients who live in different time zones. Your San Francisco inbound marketing agency knows how to do this, but in case you want to try your hand at it, there are some very complicated trial and error methods that might work.

First up we found an infographic that tells you the time zones and what time it is from you to a client. Even though you live in San Francisco, if you sell cases of widgets to people in some other location, you might not be making the connection if you post everything at the same times every day. Kimi Mongello in New York posted a very helpful time zones infographic that explains about time in her article Post Smarter Everywhere with This Handy Time Zones Infographic. This infographic is set to Eastern Standard Time, which is running 3 hours ahead of us. You will want to keep that in mind and just subtract the 3 hours to everything you see.

In case you ever wondered what GMT means, it means general meridian time. Also if you scroll through this infographic the clocks appear to be in motion.

When are the best times?

Now that you have an idea of what time zone your clients live in, your next order of business is to get a feel for the best times to post. There are many infographics on Google that can be used to confuse you. I picked these last two in this article because they both came from a site SumAll that are both similar in appearance and are the same website from which the Handy Time Zones Infographic came.

Don't let the title of this next article fool you Timing is Everything. Post Smarter Right Meow, also by Kimi Mongello, is a thorough time piece of the lastest data. The infographic includes posting on LinkedIn for those of you selling B2B as well as information for those of you using Tumblr, Instagram and Pinterest.

One novel side note is what Kimi wrote about the Burrito Principle.

The folks at STAY CLASSY developed this theory based on the premise that you want to catch people on their downtime. So get their attention early in the morning between 7:30 and 10am during the commute, during a lunch feast of burritos between 12:30 and 2:30pm, or evening rush hour between 5:30 and 6:30pm.

You might also be interested in knowing that the best time to post on Instagram is 6 p.m. and that the best days to post to LinkedIn are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday either before work from 7-8:30 a.m. and from 5-6 p.m. IF you use Pinterest, it has the most action on weekends.

The Dead Zone

I have saved the best for last, the one that caught my attention first. Taken from Shea Bennett's article Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest – When NOT To Post On Social Media [INFOGRAPHIC]I found this slightly creepy SumAll infographic Posting Dead Zones.

It is just as important not to post during certain times of day as it is to post during the best. Again you will have to determine this for yourself unless you get help from a San Franciso inbound marketing agency.

How? You need to keep track of your post times to see when you get retweets, click throughs and likes. By choosing different times, you will see a pattern emerge in about a month.

One thing we can say with certainty, you want to avoid down times like those on this infographic. Also do you remember that timing infographic we started with? You have to consider your customers' time zones in the final equation.

There you have your initial research all laid out for you. You know in which time zones your clients live, you know the best times to post on social media and the times you do not want to post on social media. If after going to all the work you decide you don't want to guess, your San Francisco inbound marketing agency will be glad to help you.
