Although we are using the term 'email marketing' for the purposes of this article, email is really a tool, or tactic, that is part of the larger strategy of inbound marketing. Along with your business blog (and you do have one, right?) email can be one of your most effective means of gaining traffic.

We all know what it's like to have our email inboxes buried in unsolicited and (often) unwanted emails. In fact, one study showed that the average person's inbox contains 54% promotional emails. And the most common action taken by the recipients is to delete them.

One of the often misguided bits of content marketing advice that get passed around is that if you simply create good content, you can drive traffic to your website. While it is true that creating good content is absolutely essential for content marketing, it is only the first part of the equation.
