There is an old saying that goes, "Plan your work and work your plan." That's a truism and a clever phrase. But the deeper truth is that if you don't document your plan, it's not likely going to go well - if at all.

Traditional, or outbound, marketing strategies are typically dependent on paid advertising. The objective is to capture attention, often by "interrupting" a target audience with a print ad, billboard, and radio or television commercials. This approach still has significant influence in the marketing world.

Traditional marketing tactics, including pay-per-click advertising, and other outbound methods, continue to be used by many, if not most businesses day in and day out. While these tactics can work - and often do - they prove to be costly. On the other hand, content marketing tactics has been shown to be far more cost-effective.

A "lead magnet" is a nicely descriptive term, but what is it exactly? Essentially, a lead magnet is simply something free - usually some type of content - that a website visitor receives in exchange for their email address.

We all know what it's like to have our email inboxes buried in unsolicited and (often) unwanted emails. In fact, one study showed that the average person's inbox contains 54% promotional emails. And the most common action taken by the recipients is to delete them.

Okay. To be fair, there are some ideas about both content marketing and inbound marketing out there. Some "gurus" tout one over the other, or dismiss one while promoting the other. Are they the same? Are they different?
